The History of Bobby Grace Putters

Bobby Grace HistoryThe Bobby Grace Putters brand name has a long and successful history in the golfing industry. The brand was first introduced in the early 1990’s. By 1997 Bobby Grace Putters was purchased by Cobra Golf to be the exclusive putter designer for the company. By 1999 Bobby’s obligations to Cobra had been fulfilled and he began a second putter company. That company was purchased by MacGregor Golf in 2003. In 2009 Bobby bought back all patents and copyrights to his name to start his current company - Bobby Grace Tour Putters LLC.

Bobby Grace Putters have been used by professional golfers to win over 160 tournaments worldwide. So how did this success come about?
Bobby Grace Classic Clubs – Bobby Grace took up golf early in life and soon became a championship junior golfer. Although he was to become a plus 3 player winning many amateur titles and even competing in the US & British Amateur – Bobby’s fascination with golf was always grounded in it’s history and the clubs that captured the imagination of golfers and collectors around the world.

Beginning as a teenager working on the driving range – Bobby began to develop an eye for rare clubs that were in demand by the collecting public. Soon his personal collection grew to where he started to sell some items in order to be able to purchase clubs that were harder to find and more expensive to buy. Bobby’s personal collection evolved into a full blown business with perpetual ads running in golfing magazines and other advertising business – with a regular presence on the PGA Tour and with clientele that included many of the touring pro’s who loved the legacy of the game.

As Bobby Grace Classic Clubs matured into a successful enterprise, Bobby was studying the various club designs that these elite and lasting classic clubs represented. He began to understand what the critical design features were that made one club a “classic” and another club a usable tool.

As the “Classic Club” business flourished, Bobby started to tinker using his personal knowledge and insights about club design he had gained from working for years with some of the all-time great golf clubs, thinking he might start manufacturing “limited edition” putters that could become part of his “Classic Club” business.

By this time Bobby Grace Classic Clubs had customers all around the world. Many were private collectors. However, some were business men well established in the golfing business. These contacts included many loyal customers in Japan, Hawaii, South Africa, Australia, Great Britain and throughout the United States.

By 1992 Bobby had recruited a local manufacturing team and was producing “prototype” putters that he was introducing to a select and limited audience. In August 1994, while working the PGA Tour stop that week (the Memphis St. Jude’s Open), Bobby had the opportunity to show one of this “prototype” putters (called “The Fat Lady Swings”) to Nick Price – who was soon to become the Number One player in the world.

Nick was warming up for the third round of the tournament when he tried Bobby’s putter. He became so excited by the feel and the results he enjoyed on the practice green, he immediately replaced the putter he had been using and used “The Fat Lady” for the final two rounds – shooting 66 and 64 and finishing second.

The next week Nick returned to his home in Orlando and asked Bobby to send him another “Fat Lady” with some minor adjustments. The following week – Nick used the “Fat Lady” at the PGA Championship – winning wire to wire and talking about his new putter the whole time.

Because Bobby’s name was known throughout the golfing world – and because Nick Price was so enthusiastic in his praise – the week after the PGA Championship Bobby Grace Putters received 27,000 orders for “The Fat Lady”.

Since that day Bobby Grace Putters have ranked amongst the best putters made. And the reputation of Bobby Grace Putters is as strong as it ever was today. Known as an innovator who has introduced such game-changing design breakthroughs as High MOI mallet putters, Golf Ball core Insert technology, Tri-Plane sole design Bobby Grace Tour Putters is a tried and true product with a long line of enthusiastic and satisfied customers – including the most elite players in golf.

We are excited to continue this legacy of excellence with the introduction of Bobby Grace Tour Putters – the latest generation in a golfing tradition – representing the excellence that people have come to expect with the name Bobby Grace.
